ENSLEY-2018-2019-SELFIERUTH ENSLEY

My career choice to be a professional artist began in 1960.  I graduated in 1965 from Fairleigh Dickinson with a BFA in Art and a BS in Art Education K through 12.  During that time I also took classes at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and the Cleveland Institute of Art in Ohio. In 1968 and 1969 I took graduate courses in art at Monclair State and Newark State Universities in New Jersey.

ARTIST’S STATEMENT

I spent twenty four years exhibiting, teaching and creating art while living in Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Madagascar, Mexico, Honduras, Paraguay and Costa Rica.  During that time I traveled in many other countries in Africa, the Middle East and the Americas.   I saw first hand what happens when ecosystems are threatened.

Because of these experiences, it is very important to me to show what would be lost if these ecosystems disappear from our world.  One big cause of this destruction and loss of ecosystems is us. Being aware and educating ourselves of the importance of the natural flora and fauna around us helps all of us become better caretakers of our environment.

Ruth is a member of the Potomac Valley Watercolorists, the Springfield Art Guild, the Vienna Arts Society and the Virginia Watercolor Society
