Teresa Hoffman Greenley

Growing up in an artistic family, making art was something I took for granted. At university I minored in fine art, making heavy pottery and over-soldering jewelry as I became more convinced that line and color on paper or canvas were my true loves. Now I work in acrylic, pastel, and graphite and find myself gravitating to ever bigger formats.

My work is fairly realistic, but I strive for a loose, painterly feel so the viewer can tell “what it is” but still get a sense of my joy in pushing paint around on a canvas and seeing what might happen. Elegant lines catch my eye, contours and dramatic contrasts. I’ve taken thousands of photos to reference, and often I’ll combine elements of two or three photos to create a jumping-off point for a new painting. Landscapes and simple graphic design are two favorite subjects in my work, with a special affection for drawing portraits.
