Thea Rossi Barron

Artist’s Profile

Thea Rossi Barron is a resident of Fairfax County, Virginia, who for many years divided her time between practicing law and painting. A self-taught artist, she prefers to paint en plein air, adding finishing touches in her studio.

“Painting has always been my passion.  I grew up in the Midwest and began painting in middle school, starting out in oils and pastels.  In the early seventies, a Michigan artist introduced me to watercolors.  Over the years, I have taken classes at the Smithsonian Institution, Northern Virginia Community College and at the Alexandria Torpedo Factory, and have enjoyed taking workshops from Maryland and Virginia artists.

“I have traveled widely on painting excursions throughout the U.S. and in Europe. I am drawn first to contours, whether they be the mountains,  doorways or the posture of my fellow travelers.   In my smaller landscapes and cityscapes, I combine watercolor and ink, where the lines give spontaneity and definition to my work. I am inspired to paint, above all, when I am outside,  surrounded by the natural world that God has created for us.”

For the last eighteen years, Thea has exhibited her works in judged and juried shows in the Washington, D.C. and northern Virginia areas.  She had solo shows in Arlington, Virginia in 1997 and 1999 and in Fairfax, Virginia in 2005 and 2009.  Her works hang in private residences and offices in the greater Washington, D.C.area, as well as in many private collections around the United States.

She is a member of Springfield Art Guild, the Fairfax Council of the Arts and Del Ray Artisans. Her work can be viewed in the gallery at theabarron.wixsite.com/artist  or  springfieldartguild.org and can be purchased by contacting her at thea.barronart@yahoo.com or theabarron@yahoo.com.
