Carolyn Marshall Wright began her painting journey when she was in her thirties, mastering the demanding techniques of watercolors over that decade then expanding into mixed media, collage and acrylics. Now, she melds her abstract acrylic work with her representational watercolors to create a bold, impressionistic style all her own. She is a member of the award-winning contemporary art gallery, Touchstone, in Washington, DC where she exhibits monthly; she exhibits frequently at the Byrne Gallery in Middleburg, Virginia. Her work has won numerous awards in juried shows in the Mid-Atlantic region. She is a signature member of the Virginia Watercolor Society, the Baltimore Watercolor Society and a signature member and past president of Potomac Valley Watercolorists. Carolyn’s piece “Waiting for Cinderella” was chosen as a Finalist in 2026’s Splash: The Best of Watercolor. Her work has been profiled in Artist’s Magazine (May, 2020, “Finding Spontaneity in Still Life”) and in Watercolor Artist magazine (August, 2020, “Falling Down and Painting Again”). Her painting “Tuesday Morning Interior” was chosen as one of the winning works for “Best of Acrylic 2020” by American Artist. Carolyn enjoys sharing her love of art through teaching, leading collaborative workshops and giving presentations. Currently, she teaches with Smithsonian Associates in Washington, DC.

Carolyn Marshall Wright will be talking about the show, how she made the selections, and what went into her choices for the awards. I hope you’ll join us that afternoon – it’s sure to provide some really interesting insights.
From our juror: “Thank you for the opportunity to enjoy the work of the Springfield Art Guild. The members of SAG share a foundational skill level in their various media, as well as a fine sense of composition. I especially enjoyed pieces that showed the artist had pushed beyond conventional boundaries, experimenting with different media, subject matter or composition. It takes courage to push into the unknown where the results aren’t guaranteed, but that space is where really exciting art can be made.”
