Springfield Art Guild – Programs benefitting the community

The Springfield Art Guild has donated $500 five years in a row (for a total of $2.500 through 2020) to the Fairfax County Park Foundation to fund scholarships for income-eligible senior adults, dependents of income-eligible families and adults with disabilities who reside in Fairfax County. The scholarships will enable those who qualify to take visual fine arts classes offered through the Fairfax County Park Authority.

SAG is beginning the fourth year of a partnership with the Friends of Lake Accotink Park (FLAP) and Friends of Accotink Creek (FACC) to offer free Nature Journaling outings at Lake Accotink Park, and seasonal plein air and photography programs and workshops.

These visual arts activities will help people learn how to paint and sketch in the open air while experiencing nature, history, and all that Lake Accotink Park and Accotink Creek have to offer. All interested individuals are invited to participate.

SAG artists volunteer to offer face-painting fun during Lake Accotink Park festivities.

In February 2020, the first SAG Urban Sketching Group got underway in Northern Virginia with an indoor venue at the Air and Space Museum near Dulles Airport. These outings are a great way to have fun with fellow artists, practice skills for plein-air and studio work, and socialize (usually involving lunch).
