Featured Artist – Judy Isaacs

What is your personal artistic motto or mission in a sentence or two?

I like to paint in an abstract but realistic way.  I don’t want my paintings to be a photographic image of the subject.

What are three words that describe your style?

I think my style could be described as colorful and stylized images of natural subjects.

Where are you coming from and how did you start your artistic journey?

I studied art in college and then started a career in interior design.  When I retired after 28 years working for the government, I began to take drawing classes again which developed into a desire to start painting in water based mediums.

What inspires you to create? What holds you back?

I may find inspiration from nature or the love of animals that motivate me to draw or paint.  Sometimes I need the inspiration of other artists to get me started so I continue to take classes to improve my ability.

What is your favorite piece you have created or favorite art experience, and why?

I’ve taken classes in Chinese brush painting to improve my ability to paint animals in a natural way and have done some dabbling in alcohol inks.  I sometimes use “Brusho” to add textures to my paintings.

Tell us something positive that has happened to you in the last month?

My favorite medium is watercolor and the surprises I find when the paint creates it’s own effects.  I have found this especially true when it comes to painting water and skies.   I have been so inspired by spring this year after living through a year of confinement with the Covid pandemic.  I have kept busy with my art work and photography which has been an inspiration to me for some time.

At this time I do not have a web site but have plans to develop one.  I don’t think I have paintings in the SAG website and if so it’s been some time since submitting something new.  I sometimes post my paintings on Facebook under my name but I don’t have a specific Facebook page.
